Beginner drum lessons should be easy

When acquiring beginner drum lessons, make sure the instructions are easy
to follow and learn.  Granted, when going through the learning curve, a certain
amount of frustration does surface.  There should only be a minimal level of
challenge so that it does not dissolve your enthusiasm.

Fun beginner drum lesson

Here's a cool drumbeat!

1       +        2      +         3      +         4       +

Control your breathing when playing the drums

Believe it or not, playing the drum set does require controlled breathing.   No, you
don't have to take a special class to learn how to breathe.  It's just being mindful
of how you breathe as you play.  I have seen myself in the past as well as some
of my students, at times doing a beat or fill, hold their breath.  It's a great indicator
of being tense which can lead to sloppy playing.

A good way to help eliminate the tension and regain controlled breathing is to
inhale deep breaths and exhale slowly.  Perform these breathing exercises as you
play.  Start out slowly and breathe through the parts that are challenging.  This will
help you focus and relax.

Play favorite songs on the drum set

Try playing your favorite songs on your drum set.  As a beginner drummer, the
idea is not  trying to perform what the drum artist is playing.  What is important
is that you want to maintain a solid tempo and groove throughout the song.

Another drum lesson

Here's another good beginner drum exercise.  Play slowly.
